Turned Apple Pie Without Oven

The upside down apple pie or cake (and any other flavor, such as chocolate, banana, pineapple or orange) is a different and easy way to cook, present and eat and cook this delicious dessert.

Normally, cakes or pastries are usually cooked in the oven and consist of a base at the bottom and a topping or surface, which can be of multiple ingredients, flavors and colors.

Well, in the case of the turned cake it is the opposite; that is, the fruit or ingredients are at the bottom and are covered by the dough. When cut, a pleasant surprise of a sweet interior is revealed.

In addition, there is the possibility of cooking this recipe without the need for an oven. Yes, you read that right, no oven. Let’s get to it next.

Apple Flipped Pie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 apples.
  • Ground cinnamon (to taste)
  • 2 cups of flour (200 g).
  • 1 glass of milk (250 ml).
  • 3 medium eggs (180 g).
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 splash of orange blossom water.
  • 1 sachet of baking powder (10-12 g).
  • 3 tablespoons of butter (30 g).
  • 1 cup of brown sugar (100 g).
  • Optional: slices of natural pineapple and cherries in syrup.

Preparation

  • We cut the apples into slices. We discard the heart and the seeds.
  • Meanwhile, we prepare the dough. Place the flour, yeast and sugar in a container and leave a space in the middle to add the eggs and a drizzle of oil.
  • We begin to beat and we are adding, little by little, the milk and the orange blossom water. Mix until a homogeneous mass.
  • Besides, we melt two tablespoons of butter in a pan over medium heat. We add three tablespoons of brown sugar and mix until obtaining a kind of caramel.
  • Immediately, we sauté the apples with the caramel.
  • Once ready, we add the dough to the pan, little by little, starting at the edges of the pot all the way to the inside. Why around the edges? Because if we start in the center, the fruit will go to the sides and will not be centered.
  • If we wish, we can also add a few pieces of pineapple or cherries.
  • Then, we cover the pan with its lid and cook over low heat for approximately 20 minutes. The steam will bake our apple pie to perfection.
  • Given that it is possible that we have a lot of dough left over, while making the apple pie we can prepare another equal or some other fruit (peach, pineapple, orange, etc.).
  • After 20 minutes, we proceed to turn the turned apple pie, as with an omelette : we place a plate a little larger than the pot on top of it.
  • We let the other part of the cake cook for about 5 minutes and then we turn off the heat.
  • We turn the plate with the pot carefully, holding the plate well with one hand and the pot with the other. The flipped apple pie will be perfectly positioned on the plate.
  • Let cool to room temperature before serving.

Some recommendations

To facilitate the cooking and, later, the manipulation of the cake when turning it, it is important that we prepare the dessert in a low container with a lid. 

To decorate the apple pie, we can use: a touch of honey, icing sugar sprinkled on the surface, a touch of cinnamon or, why not, a little cream or grated coconut. Everything will depend on our tastes and creativity.

In case you do not want to prepare the recipe with sugar, it is recommended to replace it with honey or agave syrup. On the other hand, you can also change the flour for another of our preference (integral, for example); We just have to be attentive to the indications of the variant in relation to the rest and cooking time.
